Things That Fly Around in Space
Most things that are in space are just debris from something else. Asteroids, Meteors, and Comets. There is one main theory that all Asteroids and Meteors come from the big bang. They were large rocks and dwarf planets that collided and destroyed one another. Now most preside in four main fields, the main belt Trojans, a scattered disc, and the Kuiper belt.
Most astronomers believe that most Comets come from the Kuiper belt. It is the furthest from the sun and the Comets are considered the coldest objects in the solar system. Comets are ice and dust balls. Their distinct feature is the tail that they sport when near the sun or being blown on by space wind. Their orbits go out past Neptune and in towards the sun. This is what makes them so icy.
When a Meteor enters Earths atmosphere it heats up and burns away. Most burn up and light up the sky’s as they descend. These are our shooting stars. Meteors either burn up or are destroyed upon collision. Those that make it through these two things are massive. Here is a link to the 7 largest still around.
Asteroids are some what like meteors. But, Asteroids are small planetoids. They are believed to be from the Sun’s Solar Nebula. Asteroids were small planets that didn’t grown enough to form their own gravitational field or true planet form.
There are also inorganic things in space. Things like space probes and satellites. Or parts of space ships. These are in many different places. There are hundreds of explorations going on right now in far reaches of our solar system. But these don’t even count for half of the stuff in space.
